NYE 2024

The same NYE as the last 12 years…the fireworks store. Not much changes from season to season except the people we work with. We had a great group of kids helping and several old faces show up to say hello, Ryan Simpson and Christina Martin! One good thing about working the fireworks store is that we always get to ring in the New Year at 12am. Otherwise we would be asleep long before midnight!

Happy New Year!

Amber’s new business venture

The Twisted Whisker is Amber’s new business. It is a cat boarding place, but also a place to sit and play games and enjoy the company of cats without having to have one of your own. She has done a ton of work on the place and it looks so good. It was fun to sit with the cats and give them some attention. I can’t wait to see how it all runs when she is finished with the whole project!

Christmas Day in Granbury

We spent the majority of Christmas Day in Granbury. We ate and played games and opened gifts. The boys got going with learning how to play poker. Even though they were only playing with Hershey Kisses they learned real quick how fast money can come and go when playing cards. It was a fun day and I’m thankful we were able to all be together!

Christmas Eve

Richard and I were able to host Christmas Eve this year with the kids so I wanted to make sure I was intentional with traditions we want to start as the kids are getting older and starting families of their own.

Candy cane coffee cake is always a must and I’m thankful when the boys offer to help! Itchy Scratchy helped with the gift wrapping and Troy is living his best life with Tanner and Santa!

When the kids get married I wanted to start a family stocking so since Brock and Baylee are now married I got them a stocking with their married name on it to fill with things for the both of them. The night was filled with good food and  opening stockings and gifts and played games, but I think my favorite part of the evening was sharing the words I received from the Lord with each person. It was such a special time and I pray that everyone felt the love the Lord has for them! That’s what this season is really all about!

Christmas at the Hollingsworths

Our annual Christmas with the Hollingsworths was filled with joy and laughter like many of the years gone by. We ate too much Mexican food, enjoyed opening our gifts from the person that drew our name and then played games. Once again, Teague and Maysen teamed up on LCR and won the jackpot! They are already talking about a three-peat next year!

Night out

Kristiana, Kelly and I had an impromptu night out! It’s rare we can all find a time that works, but this spur of the moment plan came together and we had the best time eating great great food and then visiting at Z’s on the the Curry. So thankful for these treasured friends!

Visit with Blake

As the fireworks store was about to open Richard realized he needed some extra hands in order to get it stocked before opening day. Blake was quick to volunteer his time and ended up coming and staying with us for 4 days. It was so nice to have extended time to hang out and visit with him. Even though he worked most of the day with Richard we did have a family dinner and game night and we also had lots of time playing with Luka. I’m glad he was able to come, make a little money and hang out with us!

District awards

With football over now, the district voted on awards and Axtell did so well. So many guys got the praise and recognition for a wonderful season of hard work! Troy received several: All District 1st team Wide Receiver,  All District 2nd team defensive back and All District Academic!

Those awards are special, but my proudest moment was seeing Troy go over to Hamilton’s injured player, laying on a stretcher and pray for him. A Hamilton parent found Emily online and wanted to commend Troy for his compassion and kindness. It was neat to see the comments online and see pictures and video of them watching Troy extend the love of Jesus. What a God honoring was to end his football career!

Playoffs

Round 1 of playoffs started with a Wednesday night Black Out pep rally and resulted in a Thursday night win!! It was a horrible first quarter, but we figured it out and turned it around! Bi-District Champs!

Round 2 of the playoffs was played in Weatherford so we had a huge cheering section. Our QB broke his collar bone in the 1st quarter and left the game, but the team didn’t let that stop them and we won 45-6!

Round 3 of playoffs was played in Robinson against Mildred. The whole family, including Blake and Luka, were able to come! Plus most of Richard, Daniel and Emily’s family so our cheering section was huge. We had a short pep rally and send off the morning before the game and then we went to lunch before 3pm kick-off. It was a great game that resulted in game winning history! Axtell has never been to round 4, so that is exciting!

Round 4 of playoffs started with a Christmas themed pep rally that was so much fun!

The game was one of the best the boys have ever played but in the end we lost by 1 point in the last minute of the game. It was heartbreaking! We were the better team, but there were some bad calls made and when it was all over we were stunned at the loss. What an unforgettable season it was and one we will all remember forever!
